Film Chucka Parello to próba przedstawienia portretu słynnego seryjnego mordercy- Eda Geina. Reżyser porzucił pokusę epatowania okrucieństwem, a zamiast tego starał się dociec przyczyn zbrodni popełnionych przez Geina i powodów jego choroby psychicznej. Ukazane zostały wydarzenia z dzieciństwa bohatera- jego relacje z matką, która była fanatyczką religijną i ojcem- alkoholikiem. Najważniejsza częśc filmu to jednak dorosłe, "zabójcze" życie Geina, aż po odkrycie jego zbrodni przez wymiar sprawiedliwości.
