Obłąkany lalkarz Mr. Franz, śmiertelnie przerażony perspektywą pozostania samotnym, buduje maszynę, która może zmniejszać ludzi do rozmiaru kilku cali. W krótkim czasie szaleniec "tworzy" na własne potrzeby trupę aktorską złożoną z pomniejszonych ludzi, których zmusza do występowania w przedstawieniach. Wszystko się dzieje według jego woli do momentu, gdy zmniejsza swą sekretarkę Sally oraz jej narzeczonego Boba. Para ta sprzeciwia się takiemu potraktowaniu i postanawia znaleźć sposób powrotu do normalnych rozmiarów oraz uciec szaleńcowi.
